Di Crawford, born in Perth in 1949, now lives and work at Cape Schanck on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. She had numerous and very successful solo exhibitions.

In her early work she refined a unique style of threadwork producing images of vibrant colour and quirkiness which continue to amaze. As she no longer works in this physically difficult medium her threadwork pieces are becoming increasingly rare.

Since those early years she has applied her extraordinarily creative talents to acrylic paintings on canvas and on paper. These works echo a similar eclectic style with rich colour and vibrancy. Their inspiration is drawn mainly from her travels into remote parts of Australia. The rugged terrain provides a wealth of material for Di’s favourite subjects – the extraordinary Australian outback landscapes and the native flora and fauna which inhabit this amazing continent. Woven through these images is her enduring fascination for the symbolism and patterns of the land. Her style has an etched and textured feeling of great delicacy.

Her most recent venture includes mannequins painted in the vibrant colours and patterns of her quirky and inimitable style.
Di helps those in less fortunate situations wherever she can. Over many years Di has donated funds from artwork sales to worthy causes such as to an outdoor education facility, to climate change, to cancer research, to habitat sustainability, to kindergartens, to schools, to bushfire relief, to victims of the 2004 tsunami and to drought relief. Giving back is very important to her and she will continue to make such donations in the future.

In 2005 and 2006 The National Trust of Australia chose some of Di’s threadwork pieces for inclusion in its 2006 and 2007 diaries. In 2015 Di was chosen as one of nine female artists to exhibit her work in the Outstanding Women Artists exhibition.

In 2015 Di was asked, along with some 100 Australian artists, to paint and submit two works for the Luciano Benneton Collection in Italy: Imago Mundi - Looking Down Under, Contemporary Artists from Australia. This was intended for the Venice Biennale the following year.

“I see colour, patterns and vibrancy everywhere – and I have an insatiable need to reflect this in my work” Di Crawford
